Pseudonym

A pseudonym is a name used as opposed to your real name. This can be for privacy or to find your identity. It is generally recommended to use one on MicroWiki, as everything on the internet is permanent. Though MicroWiki has a policy on this issue, we can not delete anything previously saved on things like the Internet Archive and news websites containing your name. Just get a pseudonym now before it's too late.

Go to Special:CreateAccount and follow the instructions.

Your user page

After creating your account, access your userpage.

User pages can be your personal playground. It allows you to express yourself. Just some rules, however:

Common user pages designs include User:Z Luna Skye and the more graphical-fancy one of User:Austenasia.

Editing your user page

Recommended resources
Wikipedia's Help:Introduction has a manual for both source editor and visual editor (though some may be different compared to MicroWiki). Alternatively, MicroWiki:Helpsheet provides a resource for basic wiki markup text in source editor.

To edit your user page, you will need to use one of the editors. There are two editors that are used in MicroWiki, source and visual editor. We will be mostly using source editor as it is more reliable and easier to use in the long-term.

Source editor

Screenshot of source editor

Source editor is more text-based and is harder to use, but generally preferred due to it having fewer bugs compared to the visual editor. Source editor uses markup language, it should not be confused with coding. Don't get worried about source editor, it's much easier to learn as opposed to coding languages. Refer to MicroWiki:Helpsheet for wiki markup language used in source editor. Access the source editor by clicking the "edit source" button.

Visual editor

Visual editor is more user-friendly and does not rely on wiki markup, but generally has more bugs within it making it less desirable for users to use it. However, it can be a great practice tool and some users prefer it due to its more friendly-ness design. Refer to Wikipedia:VisualEditor/User_guide for a tutorial. Access the visual editor by clicking the "edit" button.

Editing approval

Accounts with 10 edits may encounter that the edit may not be immediately live. This is expected since all edits by these accounts need to be manually be approved by a patroller or administrator. Your edit should be live within a short period of time.

Assignment
Completion of this assignment will be required to attain a barnstar and certificate. Feel free to complete it if you are not interested in attaining it, but if you are not interested in it this is optional.

Make your own user page. It should at least describe you or your micronation.

Communicating between other MicroWiki users

Users can communicate with other users through their talk page. First however, you will need a signature.

Editing your signature

You will need to access your preferences page, located at Special:Preferences. Click the aforementioned link, or:

Next, head down to "signature", and edit your signature.

Let's take my signature for example:

Jaydenfromcanada (talk) | Sent from Mail for Windows 10 |
Signature section What it does What it looks like
Jaydenfromcanada Links to my user page Jaydenfromcanada
(talk) Links to my talk page, around brackets (talk)
| Sent from Mail for Windows 10 Additional text I added, optional Sent from Mail for Windows 10
Additional example I added, optional. This is for advanced users only.  these signature styles are terrible
| It is common to leave a vertical bar at the end to show the date. | 22:42, 18 April 2021 (UTC)

All combined, my signature looks like:

Jaydenfromcanada (talk) | Sent from Mail for Windows 10  these signature styles are terrible  | 22:42, 18 April 2021 (UTC)

Feel free to add or remove stuff on your signature. After your done, follow these steps:

And now you have a signature!

Accessing a talk page

This can be accessed through various means:

Start a topic with beneath the most recent topic with ==<PAGE TITLE>==. Sign your name with ~~~~. If you are replying to someone, it should look something like this in source editor:

Joe mama
Joe mama ~~~~
:Your reply ~~~~
::Your reply 2 ~~~~
:::Your reply 3 ~~~~
Assignment
Completion of this assignment will be required to attain a barnstar and certificate. Feel free to complete it if you are not interested in attaining it, but if you are not interested in it this is optional.

Go to User:Jaydenfromontario. Access the user page, and start a topic beneath the most recent topic. In your topic, write your favourite food. Sign off with your signature.
